Microsoft Working on Skype For The Web

Microsoft Working on Skype For The Web:

Microsoft seems to have a yet bigger goal in mind, with the revelation of Skype for the web. Recent job postings on the Microsoft Careers website indicates that the company is looking for a software development engineer for a Skype for browsers job.

Key responsibilities include real-word experience in developing HTML5 and JavaScript web apps. While the job description does not state that Skype for the web will be built using HTML5 and JavaScript exclusively, it would make sense for a number of reasons. It first would mean that Microsoft could ship the upcoming Windows 8 operating system with a Skype app, and it would also mean that Windows Phone and other phones supporting HTML5 and JavaScript would be able to make use of Skype on the web.
Skype on the web could provide Skype users with access to their contacts, history and messaging capabilities right on the web and without installation of Skype on the device used to make the connection. It furthermore could compete directly with Google+’s hangout feature and Google Voice. (via WP Sauce, via Caschy)
