BlackBerry is driving home their plans on growing BBM on Android and iOS with a new update to v2.2. This new update mainly simplifies the sign up process on Android and iOS by cutting down the fields it takes to get signed up to just a name, email, and password. They also make it easier to add BBM contacts through email instead of having to send an invite back. They have also thrown in 16 new emoticons for extra kicks.
BlackBerry has confirmed that this update is coming to Google Play for Android tonight. It will then roll out to iOS in the coming days. BlackBerry did promise that they have a special release for BlackBerry 10 and legacy BlackBerry devices in a couple weeks with a few special bonus items. That makes sense since the simpler sign up process really only makes sense on other platforms that do not already require a BBID.
