As successful and revolutionary as the iOS App Store has been for mobile, Apple has not been able to replicate that success on desktops and laptops with the Mac App Store. The selection is limited, the storefront is outdated and for the average Mac user, there's rarely any reason to visit it. And that's why Apple is reportedly calling an audible. According to a report from Bloomberg , Apple will allow developers to design applications that work seamlessly on iOS and macOS. Sources say that the apps will be able to run on touchscreens or with a mouse, depending on whether a user has downloaded the app on an iPhone, an iPad or a macOS computer. Continue reading... The next version of Apple's desktop operating system, macOS High Sierra, will launch on Sept 25, Apple unveiled on Tuesday. Originally announced during Apple's WWDC event in June and released as beta later that month, the new OS is more of a refinement than a revolutionary upgrade of Sierra. In a day filled with surprises, Apple has shocked us once again with the release of iTunes 12.7, which entirely revamps the iTunes App . The new iTunes is designed to focus solely on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks, which means there is no built-in App Store. The App Store has been entirely eliminated in iTunes 12.7, as has the ringtones section of iTunes. Internet Radio is now part of Music, and iTunes U has been folded into Podcasts, as Apple announced in late August . Apple is making its GarageBand, iMovie, and iWork (Pages, Keynote, and Numbers) apps totally free for all Mac OS and iOS customers as of today. In late 2013 , Apple began offering the software for free to anyone that purchased a new Apple device — either a Mac or iPhone / iPad — on or after September 1st, 2013. Owners of older hardware who wanted to install the apps had to pay for them. iMovie and Garageband were $4.99 for iOS, according to 9to5Mac , and the iWork apps were each $9.99.
