It looks like the NFC wheels are in motion for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Curve 9360. Both devices became the first SIM-based smartphones to be certified by Mastercard as PayPass approved, meaning we may not have to wait much longer to put that NFC feature to good use. Here's to hoping this is just the start of whats to come on the NFC front.

WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 26, 2011) - Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM)(TSX:RIM) today announced the BlackBerry® BoldTM 9900 and BlackBerry® CurveTM 9360 smartphones are the first SIM-based NFC smartphones to be certified by MasterCard Worldwide as PayPass-approved devices.

The certification was granted on the basis of the BlackBerry® smartphones meeting the functionality, interoperability and security requirements of MasterCard. With this certification, any MasterCard PayPass-issuing bank globally will be able to deploy MasterCard PayPass-enabled accounts to the SIM card of these smartphones.

iOS 11 Update Now Available For iPhones And iPads

About a week ago Apple confirmed that the iOS 11 update would be released on the 19th of September , and sure enough it has. For those who own compatible iOS devices, you will be pleased to learn that the update will be available for download today , so you can wait for your iOS device to prompt you, or you can go to your phone's Settings -> General -> Software Update and try and pull it manually. Apple will disconnect ‘obsolete’ first-gen Apple TV from iTunes in May

Apple has announced today it will drop iTunes support for some older devices from May 25. This includes the first generation Apple TV, and also any PC running Windows XP or Vista. The company is introducing new security changes which will prevent those devices from using the latest version of iTunes. Apple says that the original Apple TV is an "obsolete Apple product" and will not be updated to support security changes. Only those with the second generation of Apple TV or later will be able to access the iTunes store. Windows XP or Vista users won't be able to use the latest version of iTunes, but older Windows computers can still use previous versions without support from Apple. Those who do so, however, won't be able to make new purchases or re-download previous purchases on that computer.
