Apple has announced today it will drop iTunes support for some older devices from May 25. This includes the first generation Apple TV, and also any PC running Windows XP or Vista. The company is introducing new security changes which will prevent those devices from using the latest version of iTunes. Apple says that the original Apple TV is an "obsolete Apple product" and will not be updated to support security changes. Only those with the second generation of Apple TV or later will be able to access the iTunes store. Windows XP or Vista users won't be able to use the latest version of iTunes, but older Windows computers can still use previous versions without support from Apple. Those who do so, however, won't be able to make new purchases or re-download previous purchases on that computer. Microsoft and LinkedIn's Resume Assistant, a tool to help users optimize their resumes for specific jobs, is now available for Office 365 subscribers on Windows. Resume Assistant pops up in a sidebar and helps by offering examples of work experience descriptions you can use as inspiration for your resume based on a role (like a project manager) or an industry (like journalism). You can also filter through skills prospective employers might be looking for to fine-tune and tailor your CV. Resume Assistant has been integrated with Microsoft Word since last year . As successful and revolutionary as the iOS App Store has been for mobile, Apple has not been able to replicate that success on desktops and laptops with the Mac App Store. Reddit users have noticed that Apple appears to be slowing down old iPhones that have low capacity batteries. While many iPhone users have experienced perceived slowdowns due to iOS updates over the years, it appears that there's now proof Apple is throttling processor speeds when a battery capacity deteriorates over time. Geekbench developer John Poole has mapped out performance for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 over time, and has come to the conclusion that Apple's iOS 10.2.1 and 11.2.0 updates introduce this throttling for different devices. iOS 10.2.1 is particularly relevant, as this update was designed to reduce random shutdown issues for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. Microsoft plans to remove the HomeGroup functionality from its Windows 10 operating system. The company made the first step towards that goal in the most recent Insider Preview version of Windows 10 as it disabled it in that build. In "a note about HomeGroup" in the release announcement of the Windows 10 Insider Build, Microsoft confirms that HomeGroup will be retired. The company introduced HomeGroup in Windows 7 as a new option for home users to access printers, files, and media in home networks. The core idea was to assign all devices to a single HomeGroup to share access to files and printers between all devices. It is unclear how popular the feature was and is. It is clear however that it was never the only option that Windows users had in this regard, and it was not the best either for certain use cases. Google launched a redesigned version of Google Calendar on the web today. The calendar looks way more modern with larger date icons, updated colors, and cleaner event boxes. It basically looks more like the mobile application. As for functionality, Google focuses on improvements for business users. Admins can now add details about conference rooms, so employees know how large they are, whether they're wheelchair accessible, and whether they have AV equipment. People can also link to spreadsheets, documents, and presentations in their calendar invites so attendees can open them directly from the "event detail" view. The software giant first started testing its Fall Creators Update back in April, and now all Windows 10 users will be able to experience the improvements today. Just like previous updates, Microsoft is rolling it out in stages, and you can check whether it's available for your own PC from Windows Update. If your device is eligible then it will start downloading in the background, and a prompt will appear to schedule a time to install. Apple says it is working closely with Microsoft to fix an issue that prevents Outlook.com, Office 365, and Exchange 2016 account holders from sending or replying to emails using Apple's native Mail app in iOS 11. About a week ago Apple confirmed that the iOS 11 update would be released on the 19th of September , and sure enough it has. For those who own compatible iOS devices, you will be pleased to learn that the update will be available for download today , so you can wait for your iOS device to prompt you, or you can go to your phone's Settings -> General -> Software Update and try and pull it manually.
